More sketchbook work

Here are a few more pages of my sketchbook work, just showing what textures I was researching. All these images are distressed and loosely knitted, therefore linking with my change theme of distressed fabrics.

Laser cutting

I decided to experiment with laser cutting, just seeing what a different technique would create. Using my own image I created from looking at twisted ropes, the first few designs were created on material and then once the design had been created to acceptable standards and quality I attempted my design on knit I had produced. Laser cutting knit did prove to be very difficult and because the design was small and delicate the knit ended up falling apart.

Cabled knit

These few samples are showing the beginnings of looking at cabled knit, and what effects I can create, still keeping Mark Fast and Rodarte's simple but effective designs in mind for inspiration. I've tried different techniques to create 2 tone colour cables and also cables and ladders.

Twists

 

Here are some experiments using the hold technique on a 7gage domestic machine, I like how the knit looks swirly and twisted. Changing colours and adding trimmings can make a huge difference to the sample.
